Table Tennis for Adult Beginners
A beginners course to suit new or very recent players will commence in February 2012. Adult beginners who would like to try the sport, or others who may have only played in the garage or sunroom in the past, will have the opportunity for some informal coaching to improve skills and confidence in a relaxed atmosphere.
Sessions will be on Mondays (10 am - 12 noon) and Thursdays (7 pm - 9 pm) commencing the week beginning 6 February and continuing until Easter. After Easter, either morning or evening sessions will continue depending on demand and the time that suits participants best. New players can join at any time.
Players may come to individual sessions or for a whole course. The program will be informal but some formal stroke coaching will be included. There will be the opportunity to use our table tennis robot. Some participants may decide to play in our senior or veterans rosters which start at the beginning of March.
The courses are free for STTTA voting members and STTTA practice pass holders. There will be a $5 sessional fee for non-members.
Chris Hooper (Level 1 coach) will organise the courses and some of our experienced players will also help.

Veterans Championships - Medals
The Australian Veterans Championships were played in Adelaide from 15 - 22 October with some good performances by STTTA representatives on the Tasmanian team.
As a finalist, Dave Sherman won the Silver Medal in the National Over 80 Men’s Singles, while Geoff Benn won the Bronze Medal in the National Over 75 Men’s Singles. Geoff was No. 5 in the National Order of Merit for his performances in the Over 75 event. Peter Chung was No. 10 in the Order of Merit for the same category.
Our ladies in the Over 50 Women’s team achieved Australian National Order of Merit listings. Irina Sakova (No. 8), Sophie Kim (No. 9) and Judy Bowerman (No. 10) in Australia for their age group - an outstanding result – just going down 6-5 to the top-ranked Victorian ladies in the rounds and just missing a team’s medal! Tasmanian Open Championships
The Tasmanian Open Table Tennis Championships were held on Saturday 23 July 2011. Winner of the Mens Open Singles was Eddie Kasser and Runner-up was Andrew Castaldi. The Womens Open Singles was won by Maddy Goodsell, with Runner-up Irina Sakova. See our photo gallery.

Australian Open
The Hobart BMW Australian Open and Youth Championships have now ended with some great competition on the final day, Saturday 18 June 2011. Winner of the Men's Open Singles was D H Kang of Korea with runner-up S Gerada of Victoria. Winner of the Women's Open Singles was M H Kim of Korea and runner-up was Z Y Zhang of New South Wales.
